Golden Offers an Active Lifestyle
Featuring proximity to the Front Range, the active outdoor town keeps beat with the general spirit of the Rockies. The town welcomes visitors. Mountain bikers enjoy exploring the sights around the surrounding hills. Kayakers enjoy the adventures of the one-mile whitewater course. You will notice that there are more tourists in the summer. The rest of the year Golden, home to The Colorado School of Mines, is more of a college town.
Golden Colorado and Town Culture
In Golden, every resident and visitor finds interesting activities. For example, you might like cultural events. The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra has been in residence since 1953. The orchestra performs at the Bunker Auditorium at the Green Center on campus at Colorado School of Mines. Also, the Foothills Art Center, a nationally recognized art exhibitor, displays inside a beautiful historic church.
Golden is home to two live theater performance groups. One opened in 1086 at the Heritage Square Music Hall. It happens to be one of only two dinner theater venues in the Denver metropolitan area. The second live theater in Golden, Miners Alley Playhouse, opened in 2001 with dramatic performances.
Learners will be happy to know that Golden has more museums per capita than any other town in the state! And they offer a variety of never-ending collections. Take for instance, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, Colorado Railroad Museum, and the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum. Homeschoolers and tourists alike can take a step back in time at the Golden Pioneer Museum. Then, put these three on the calendar for added bonus: Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum, Astor House Hotel Museum, and Clear Creek History Park.
Schools and Colorado School of Mines
Jefferson County School District serves students from Golden properties. The State of Colorado Accountability School Reports ranks Golden schools as generally High to Excellent. Many homes in Golden house students attending The Colorado School of Mines. The school ranks near the top of the list of mining/engineering schools in the nation.
